Union St. Riparian Enhancement Project
In spring 2011, the Indian Creek Stewards, in cooperation with Pacific Power, OWEB, and many other community partners, replaced a half-acre of blackberry and knapweed with native trees and shrubs. Throughout Earth Week, school groups and community volunteers helped the Indian Creek Stewards mulch along the planted rows. The new plantings will hopefully form a healthy native plant community, which will provide better wildlife habitat, reduce erosion into Indian Creek, and help prevent the spread of noxious weeds.

It will take a few years of growth before the new plantings are able to outcompete the noxious weeds at this site. Until then, the Indian Creek Stewards will be busy preventing the weeds from killing our plantings. If you would like to help with a weed-pulling party or otherwise get involved with this restoration project, please contact us.
