The Watershed Group partners with a wide range of organizations and agencies to further our mission and expand our positive impact in the Watershed. Our work is successful due to the longstanding and productive relationships with our partners listed below.
Hood River Soil & Water Conservation District
The Hood River Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Watershed Group have a long and productive partnership, beginning in 1993 when the SWCD facilitated the formation of the Watershed Group by hosting community meetings, engaging prospective partners, and securing funds to hire a Watershed Coordinator. The SWCD serves as the Watershed Group’s fiscal sponsor and employs the Watershed Group’s staff. The SWCD also helps landowners, managers, and residents understand and correct or prevent threats to natural resources by employing a wide variety of conservation techniques.
Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs
The Watershed Group works with the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Hood River Production Program (HRPP) on a variety of habitat restoration, monitoring, and education projects. The HRPP is dedicated to the research, management, and enhancement of fisheries in the Hood River Watershed, which is within the Tribes’ ceded lands and usual and accustomed stations. The HRPP has implemented numerous projects in the Watershed to benefit habitat for Chinook, steelhead, and other native fish populations, as well as improving harvest opportunity for Tribal members and other local residents.
Irrigation Districts
The Watershed Group works extensively with the irrigation districts within the Basin, including Farmers Irrigation District, East Fork Irrigation District, Middle Fork Irrigation District, and Dee Irrigation District. Our collaborative projects focus on water conservation assessment and planning, as well as irrigation delivery system upgrades. These projects have resulted in more water instream and improved irrigation resources and resiliency for farmers.
Natural Resources Conservation Service
The Watershed Group works with the NRCS to implement water conservation projects and encourage efficient irrigation throughout the watershed. NRCS provides farmers, ranchers, and forest managers with technical assistance and opportunities for cost-share on a variety of conservation practices, including irrigation equipment upgrades, irrigation water management, pollinator habitat enhancement, and forest health.
U.S. Forest Service
The Watershed Group works with Forest Service staff out of the Hood River Ranger District to implement aquatic habitat restoration projects taking place on or near the Mt. Hood National Forest. The Forest Service’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
The Watershed Group works with local ODFW staff on planning, monitoring, and restoration projects. The mission of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is to protect and enhance Oregon’s fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality
The Watershed Group works with regional DEQ staff on planning and monitoring projects. The mission of the Oregon DEQ is to be a leader in restoring, maintaining, and enhancing the quality of Oregon’s air, land, and water.
