The Watershed Group is involved in planning processes locally and regionally.
There is almost no limit to potential projects that could improve the health of the Hood River Watershed, and there are many agencies and institutions that are poised to do good work. Coordinated planning is the key to focusing work on projects that offer the highest return. The Watershed Group plays a key role by convening a diversity of natural resource expertise within the Watershed and focusing collective efforts on the highest priority projects. The Watershed Group also represents the needs and interests of the Watershed in regional planning efforts, and participates in the Hood River Forest Collaborative (“Stew Crew”), a diverse group of local and regional stakeholders focused on the management of the Hood River Ranger District of the Mt. Hood National Forest.
In addition to the Hood River Watershed Action Plan, the Watershed Group has produced the Hood River Watershed Assessment and the Hood River Subbasin Plan. It also supported the development of the USFS Aquatic Habitat Restoration Strategy and the Lower Columbia Fish Recovery Plan.

How can we work together?
Instream Habitat
We work with landowners and businesses to plan for and implement instream habitat restoration projects that benefit native fish populations and other wildlife, as well as reduce erosion and flooding impacts. We can also assist in seeking grant funding for projects. Contact us to explore instream restoration opportunities on your property.
Water Conservation
We work with landowners, irrigation districts, and businesses to plan for and implement water conservation, which can include irrigation efficiency projects as well as improvements for commercial or industrial practices. We can also assist in seeking grant funding for projects. Contact us to explore water conservation opportunities on your property or at your business.
Riparian Enhancement
We work with landowners and businesses to restore streamside vegetation by planting native trees and shrubs to benefit our river and its tributaries. We can also assist in seeking grant funding for projects. Contact us to explore riparian restoration opportunities on your property.
